SE Corporation (hereinafter "SE") is mainly engaged in the manufacture and sale of construction equipment and components, as well as construction consulting and repair/reinforcement work.
The company boasts Japan’s top market share for ground anchors1 (hereinafter "anchors"), a civil engineering component used to prevent landslides, which it has been manufacturing and selling in the environmental and disaster prevention business field for about 50 years. Each anchor is assigned a product number at the time of manufacture, which is used in data management of product information. This information had been provided to users in documents handed over upon delivering the product. However, when post-installation maintenance management services began on a full scale about 15 years ago, problems frequently occurred where the product information could not be confirmed, because users managed product information through paperwork and it was difficult to identify anchor product numbers on-site after installation. Therefore, the decision was made to use an IT system to manage the process. The system was named "SMATS" (which stands for "Sec Maintenance Traceability System"), for which the intra-mart® platform was adopted. Digitalizing maintenance management of infrastructure products using RFID2not only reduced workload and monetary costs, but also built foundations for the realization of a sustainable society.
